Thematic Unit: Globalization
Overview: These two lesson plans aim at introducing my students to globalization.  Their understanding of this phenomenon will be deepened by tackling its history, present and future. To know where we stand, we should now where we started and to where we are going ahead.

1st Lesson Plan: History of Globalization


Content Objective: Students will be able to identify and report about the origin of globalization

NETS

·         Students use technology to locate, evaluate and collect information from variety of resources

Application Activity:
1st Application Activity:
Part one: Students create  a Mind Map of Globalization
Part two: Students locate 5 important historical events from their Mind Maps using Google Maps

2nd Application Activity:
To support words with pictures, students will create an e-book for their Mind Map.

3rd Application Activity:
Students create a table of content for their e-book by following these steps

- Use this rubric to assess students learning in Virtual Simulation (Building Pangaea)

- Students’ Mind Map is assessed using the following rubric
- Students make the following quiz to test their knowledge about history of globalization.

Accomodation:
Assisstive Technology will be included to ensure optimal participation of students with different special needs.

2nd Lesson Plan: Present
Content Objective: Students will be able to identify and report about the present  of globalization

1st Activity: A Wiki about the effect of globalization on our life?

What fields of our life are affected by globalization?

2nd Activity
: Create a Glogster  that incorporates images from different fields of our life such as Music, Arts and PE to demonstrate
How Globalization affects our life?
(Week 13 Assignment – Artistic Glogster-Vuvox of Resources)

To see how much globalization is affecting our life, students will create a multimedia Glog (http://www.glogster.com) of Art, Music and PE resources that address and relate to “globalization”. Every student needs at least 8 Art resources, with at least 2 from each of the “arts” area: Art, PE and Music.

- Students’ Wiki  is assessed using this link.
- Students undertake this quiz about globalization today.

 Closure Activity:
- Students will create a start page using www.symbaloo.com to include all important websites  about globalization  the students  knew throughout the two lesson plans.

The goal of this activity is to include as much websites as possible to see how globalization affects our life. The students categorize the start page according to their preferences.
